White Zinfandel doesn’t usually get the respect it deserves, but the White Zin from Noisy Water Winery? Total exception. My BFF - Natalie’s (and my) favorite, this sassy little wine has legs (literally, in this illustration) and a flavor that proves it’s more than just a pretty pink pour. The quality actually shows up for a not so respected, White Zin. Natalie and I are experts at getting lost in a bottle, and sometimes a bath, so this piece celebrates wine, whimsy, and the joy of letting yourself indulge in the silly, the cozy, and the delightfully unexpected. Ephemeral Hymn

Petals whisper, colors sigh,

Moths like spirits brush the sky.

Dahlias dance in twilight’s gleam,

Zinnias hum a secret dream.

Beauty fades, yet magic stays,

In wilted stems and soft decay.

Life and death entwine and spin,

Where endings end, beginnings begin.

“Beauty is terror. We want to be devoured by it.”

I spend hours at the farm gathering skygarden dahlias and zinnias, alive with the soft blur of West Texas hummingbird moths. Each bouquet feels like a celebration, a small altar to pollinators and petals alike. But on my counter, I watch them bow to time.. petals curling inward, colors fading, stems surrendering. In their dying, they offer another kind of beauty, a resurrection found in letting go. This painting lives in that space between bloom and collapse, joy and loss. p.s. it is impossible to capture these beautiful neon pigments I’m using- just trust it’s more lovely in person.
